What a pool surround actually needs
Around a pool you are coating an outdoor slab that stays damp, heats up in January, and gets walked on with wet feet. Indoor garage flake is the wrong brief. You want texture you can stand on when it is wet; a finish that does not chalk or yellow in full sun; edges and drains that are actually prepped, not painted around; and a system that can be washed, not a film that peels when someone drags a lounge. Grind and seal vs epoxy vs flake around a pool
Grind and seal is the usual outdoor call when you want to keep the look of the concrete, lock down dust, and add a clear or lightly pigmented sealer with texture. It is thinner than a full epoxy build, so it suits existing pool copings and aprons that just need protection and grip. Epoxy flooring (including a plain coat) makes sense when you want a solid colour, a thicker film, and a surround that reads as one finished surface. Indoor-only epoxy left in full Melbourne sun is how you get chalking. Epoxy flake hides dirt and small marks and can take a heavier texture. It is a good match for family pools and busy backyard traffic, as long as the flake system is specified for exterior use. If the slab is spalling, drummy, or holding water against the house, say so in the quote request. Coating over a failed edge does not last.
Prep is the job
